Maker Pass
All Invention Lab membership and access are handled through the Maker Pass system. This is a joint maker pass that allows access to both the CITRIS Invention Lab and the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation. You can read more about this pass in the press release here. If the regular maker pass is no longer available, you can sign up for our limited Invention Lab only maker pass. Who can use the Lab? Invention Lab is open to all members of the UC Berkeley community. This includes students (undergrads and grads), post-docs, staff, faculty and recent alumni of UCB who have previously been Invention Lab Members. Access the Maker Pass fee is $100 for the semester for individual users. Fee waivers are available by request for students with financial need. The semesterly fee for users using access for primarily research purposes is $250, payable by chartstring. Please note, there is no longer a group membership option. How do I sign up?There are several simple steps to get access to the Invention Lab. In a rush, click here and follow the steps. Step 1 : Register your maker pass here Step 2: Online General Workshop Training All approved users who have completed payment must pass the General Workshop Safety (GWS) training. Those who have passed the training in prior semesters do not need to retake it, unless it is deemed necessary by the Invention Lab staff on an individual basis. *Having issues with your maker pass? Try these steps to trouble shoot. Step 3: In Person Training For the CITRIS Invention Lab, sign up for your in-person training CITRIS Invention Lab Training Step 4: Expand you Skills Once you have completed all the steps above, you will be ready to start inventing! Your Maker Pass will activate on your Cal 1 Card within two business days. Maker Pass access is valid from the first day of instruction to the last day of the semester. After getting your Maker Pass, you will be able to use the CITRIS Invention Lab during staffed operational hours. You may also want to start taking trainings for additional equipment within the lab.
