Welcome back to another exciting semester of Innovating and Making at the CITRIS Invention Lab!   The Invention Lab has re-opened for Spring 2016.  We are looking forward to some exciting new projects and people as well as welcoming new equipment including 8 new 3D Printers supporting new flexible materials, dual extrusion, PET+, as well as a new high power, larger format laser cutter, and much much more.

We’re also very excited to announce several new features of the Invention Lab

Invention Lab Membership has been discounted this semester to the following two levels:
$75 General Individual Membership
$200 Research Membership — for work on sponsored research projects that have funding support from a PI

Interested in expanding your making abilities and culture?  This semester we are able to offer a special dual access membership for the Invention Lab and Jacobs Hall.  As a pilot program we are offering this for a limited time without any additional cost.  That means if you join, or have already joined and paid for either the Invention Lab or Jacobs Maker Pass, you can apply for a limited number of Dual Maker Passes that will allow you access to both facilities.  You will still be required to go through separate safety training for each Lab.  You will need to apply for this using the following URL.  We have a limited number to award so please apply soon.  Our first round will be giving out next week. (this is the same form for both application process — fellowship or dual maker pass)

The CITRIS Invention Lab provides prototyping resources such as 3D printing, laser cutting, soldering stations, hand and power tools. The lab is open to the entire UC Berkeley community, including students, staff, faculty and alumni, to work on projects outside of formal classes.  The Invention Lab Fellowship is a merit-based program for students that will cover the registration fee for the semester. Fellowship recipients and their projects will also be highlighted on our web site and in media coverage of the lab.

We will award up to 15 fellowships based on a combination of compelling project proposals for this semester and a track record of successful past projects. The fellowships will be funded by the Lab Director.

To apply, complete this online application form: (this is the same form for both application process — fellowship or dual maker pass)

by Friday, 5 Feb at 5:00PM. We will notify winners during the following week.

All current undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at UC Berkeley for Spring 2016 are eligible to apply.

Welcome back!!
